Scope of the Role:

Reporting to our Sustainability Director, we have an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Analyst. This person could be based in our Head Office in Dublin or in one of our locations in Europe. Travel will be required where appropriate.

Over the past twelve months, Mercury has created a responsible business plan that forms a key part of our wider Beyond50 strategy. Under the Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillar of Beyond50, our plan is titled Our Planet, Our Duty.

The key focus areas include supporting projects that lead to outcomes under the four Sustainability Duties at Mercury:

  • Being an employer of choice.
  • Having responsible partnerships
  • Maintaining a minimised environmental impact; and
  • Supporting the wellbeing of local communities


There is also a focus on implementing a tracking tool for our responsible waste practices, furthering awareness training and live events for employees, and setting targets and tracking outcomes for reducing our carbon footprint.


Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Support and manage some Sustainability initiatives, encouraging positive change through the company
  • Conduct research and engage with internal and external experts to obtain data required for relevant solutions
  • Deliver positive sustainability outcomes beyond compliance
  • Ensuring sustainability reporting and compliance requirements are met
  • Embedding the data collection process throughout the business and finding standardised, company-wide solutions
  • Supporting risk assessment tools and reporting software
  • Influencing internal stakeholders and suppliers to make behavioural changes
  • Researching and implementing innovative solutions and technologies.
  • Delivering training and live events for employees


Essential Criteria for the Role:

  • Degree in engineering or sustainability
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in sustainability or general business support
  • A solid understanding of building structures, envelope design, and energy efficiency
  • Understands carbon emissions, GHG emissions, embodied carbon and how they relate to the construction industry
  • Has a high-level understanding of the UN SDGs and reporting frameworks like GRI
  • Have a good understanding of recycling, re-use of materials and the circular economy principle
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent business writing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Resilient – able to maintain productivity under pressure
  • Excellent English language skills – verbal and written
  • Self-driven and able to keep momentum on projects and agreed deliverables
  • Takes pride in delivering quality outcomes – general consistency in format of documents/presentations delivered
  • Good attention to detail and ability to complete compliance forms and questions in an accurate and complete manner
  • Able to manage several different initiatives underway within their span of responsibilities
  • Previous BIM design experience a plus
