Mechanical Construction Manager, Vienna, Austria

Key Responsibilities of the Role:
- Attend Whiteboards, take notes and contribute with planning and coordination. Communicate whiteboard items (change of entrances / exits / new exclusion zones / any trends/ incidents) to their crew / subcontractors at the morning huddle.
- Be responsible for the works taking place & the workers under your direction & control
- Ensuring all workers under their direction & control are competent to carry out the assigned task without risk
- Liaise with the subcontractor on site specific rules and specific policies.
- Walk the project assigned with EHS and check the subcontractor RAMS. Subcontractors to submit to EHS and Mercury management for approval. No works to commence without an approved RAMS
- Ensure all crew members are inducted and have adequate training to commence work on site.
- Ensure all permits to work are in place and their crew know where they are kept.
- Ensure RAMS/SOP’s are communicated to the workers and the crew are signed on to it.
- Offer guidance on how to carry out a task in a safe manner.
- Give direction to their crews to ensure they complete the task safely as per RAMS/SOP.
- Ensure a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) is completed before all work activities commence- review, comment, amend and sign off before works commence to ensure crews are working safely. Ensure the SPA is in a language to workers understand. Ensure the content of the SPA is translated for the supervisor if the written language is not understood.
- Ensure task is carried out in accordance with the SPA & the RAMS.
- Ensure the crew have the appropriate PPE to complete their tasks without risk.
- Organise Tool and plant. Ensure GA forms are in place and daily checklists are complete. Implement Mercury’s “Ladders Last” approach in the workplace.
- Ensure the workers have the correct tools and equipment to complete the task safely.
- Determine the EHS training needs of their crew members and advise management on any appropriate training required. Correct on the Spot issues.
- All Supervisors/Foreman are to directly and immediately correct on the spot any unsafe acts, behaviours or conditions. Find & Fix! Have conversations with your crew.
- Address all Safety and Environmental issues/ concerns with the Workers.
- Ensure works are carried out in line with QAQC SOP’s including playing an active part in the Bringing Quality to Life initiative.
- Ensure all SDS sheets are in place for all chemicals being used onsite by the crew and all requirements of the SDS sheets are met. Spill kits, bunds P.P.E. etc.
- Ensure a good level of housekeeping is maintained at all times.
- Ensure safe behaviours and conditions of the workplace for all persons.
- Ensure that all accidents and incidents are reported immediately to Senior Management. Assist in the completion of accident / incident reports. Package Lead to complete the incident report with the EHS advisor
- Carry out weekly Tool Box Talks with the crew. Communicate all topics of concern with the crews.
- Ensure that all who work in their crew fully understand the mandatory obligation to work safely and the consequences for not doing so.
- Contribute at client / GC meetings and ensure all applicable information is filtered back to our internal meetings and TBTs. Attend weekly Safety meetings and contribute.
- Complete site audits SMBWA as required. Close out the items found during the SMBWA ASAP – Insert photos in the SMBWA and show closed out items
- Ensure all Safety documentation is returned to EHS weekly and all folders are updated with the required documentation.
- Take ownership of any sub-contractors that have been assigned to their project to ensure they fully comply with Mercury Engineering’s policies and procedures.

Essential Criteria
- The ideal candidate will have a minimum 6- 8 years’ experience in Site management and installation.
- Previous experience in supervising and installation.
- Professional qualification in construction management.
- Professional certification
- Good technical knowledge of CSA systems.
- Travel will be required for this position.
Desirable Criteria
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work well within strict deadlines.
- Ability to drive a large-scale project.
