9,000 Mercury people and supply-chain members engaged in crucial environmental, health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives throughout Construction Safety Month 2022.

Safety is our anchor value, and as a global contractor delivering complex projects alongside our multinational clients, safety is a must.

In line with our Work Safe, Home Safe ethos, a host of wide-ranging initiatives took place across 14 countries, which included practical demonstrations, toolbox talks, presentations, and wellbeing events.

Strategic safety initiatives consisted of:

  • Defibrillator and CPR training
  • First-aid courses
  • Fire extinguisher demonstrations
  • Wellbeing talks on topics such as nutrition and sleep
  • Operating heavy machinery demonstrations
  • Working at heights demonstrations
  • Safe lifting and driving demonstrations

We continue to influence best safety practices within our industry and have led the way on multiple programmes across international projects that benefit our own operations, those of our clients, and the construction sector as a whole.

In that spirit, we are delighted to announce that our Defibrillator Awareness training was provided to 9,000 people throughout the month of October. This includes our direct staff, management, supply-chain, client reps and wider team.

At Mercury, we believe that our Work Safe, Home Safe ethos provides skills that are needed to encourage safe behaviour not only on our projects, but also in the communities in which we operate.

Michael O’Connor Group QEHSS Director said: “Mercury are proud that safety is our anchor value. Safety is the foundation of everything good that we achieve and drives quality and productivity through great planning, coordination, communication, and execution. Mercury is built on our people’s commitment to the Mercury way and from a director perspective, it has been great to see the proactive and practical demonstrations completed across the group.’’

He continued, “HQ circulated a template of activities for safety month that our sector and project EHS teams expanded on with phenomenal initiatives that have left a lasting effect on the attendees at the workshops and demonstrations completed. Mercury appreciate safety month for the additional focus to our already consistently applied safety values and management. We look forward to the 12 days of Christmas campaign in December as another over and above opportunity to ensure we get our teams home safe each day.’’
