Scope of the Role:

The Commercial Director will be responsible for developing and implementing commercial strategies according to company goals & Hyperscale Business Unit goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth.

The goal is to promote and expand the company’s commercial activity that will generate revenues and lead to sustainable growth.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Develop and implement commercial strategies according to company & Business Unit goals and objectives aiming to accelerate growth
  • Conduct market research and analysis to create detailed business plans on commercial opportunities (expansion, business development etc.)
  • Understand the requirements of existing clients to ensure their needs are being met
  • Act to acquire new clients and manage client relationships (new and existing)
  • Build and maintain profitable partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Monitor performance of commercial activities using key metrics and prepare reports for senior management
  • Assist in setting financial targets and budget development and monitoring
  • Assisting with the day to day management and development of the business.
  • Regular audits of departments, procedures, performance, etc.
  • Liaising with and coordinating and supporting the different departments as required.
  • Manage the performance and development of the commercial team through coaching, mentoring and building required skill sets to ensure that teams are adequately resourced to perform.
  • In collaboration with other stakeholders, prepare, review, and monitor data, information, and reports related to all costs and value engineering involved in regional projects
  • Leading an Hyperscale Business Unit through the commercial landscape
  • Maintain a consistent trajectory of growth, while avoiding obstacles that arise from a constantly shifting market. 
  • Decision-making on key aspects of the Hyperscale Business Unit and expectations for the future. 
  • Responsible for reaching out to new clients and advising upper management about new markets to explore.
  • Meet and exceed key revenue, retention, customer satisfaction and new business unit targets, in line with the business unit’s strategy for growth. Oversea contracts to ensure target contribution / margins are achieved.
  • Ensure that commercial project resources are well managed and fully utilised within the business unit.
  • Carry out full reviews of cost plans and estimates submitted by Construction project teams.
  • Provide full support to Construction Team on all Contract and commercial functions especially prior to the start of any project.
  • Provide advice and mentoring to QS team and administrative staff
  • Validation of all tenders and construction budgets to ensure strict compliance and governance.
  • Oversee the generation of Internal Monthly Cost Report to ensure compliance with validated margins and full liaison with Finance Department on a monthly basis. Management & monthly reporting of project costs & revenue is critical.
  • Oversee and act as an advisor in dispute resolution and/or claims should they arise within the business unit. Oversee the issuing of contractual notices, loss & expense / acceleration etc.
  • Review all incoming correspondence from Employers, Design Team and /or subcontractors, to identify contractually critical items and to initiate replies, including advice to senior management on contractual issues.
  • Implementing strategies to drive revenue and ultimately business growth.
  • Manage the business unit risk register and arrange/facilitate workshops as required.
  • Interpreting market trends and adapting to industry changes.
  • Reviewing of Contracts and ensuring compliance.
  • Oversee cash flow of both projects and the business.
  • Identify, analyse and report on trends within the business and projects.
  • Improve and implement best practice commercial processes and accurate budgeting.
  • Integrate input from all project stakeholders, ensuring that objectives are clearly defined, agreed and understood.  Ensure clear understanding of cost and schedule objectives.
  • Identify and manage project risks (through risk review meetings) in order to deliver the project within all stakeholder’s expectations. Provide data & analysis of issues & risks on a monthly basis for the business unit.
  • Stakeholder management including written and verbal communications (both internal & external) with clients, supply chain and project team members. Ensure open communications with senior management.
  • All other duties associated with the role, including liaising with other business functions.
  • Compliance with Mercury Engineering’s Code of Conduct.

 

 

Essential Criteria for the Role:

  • A degree in quantity surveying or alternatively a degree in building/construction or civils engineering and relevant experience obtained within the construction industry for a minimum of 10+ years’ experience within a reputable contractor.
  • An ability to identify problems and build collaborative relationships
  • You will be required to provide commercial support and as well as managing projects and ensure that commercial discipline is maintained throughout.
  • You will also be responsible for developing all project staff on commercial issues.
  • Travel essential in the role.
