Key Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Support and lead mechanical engineering activities across all project phases, from pre-construction through to construction support and commissioning.
  • Review design intent, specifications and drawings to develop a full understanding of project scope and requirements.
  • Contribute to tendering, estimating and project resourcing activities during pre-construction stages.
  • Review MEP and mechanical designs, interrogate tender documentation and identify scope gaps, risks and opportunities for optimisation.
  • Manage and coordinate interfaces between clients, consultants, BIM teams, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure an efficient and compliant design process.
  • Manage and contribute to MIDPs and TIDPs in accordance with ISO 19650 and project-specific information management requirements.
  • Review equipment selections, generate procurement packages and technically assess subcontractor and supplier tender returns.
  • Support the procurement of long-lead equipment and contribute to technical submittals and approval processes.
  • Lead and review the design and delivery of mechanical systems including critical cooling, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, industry standards, country-specific regulations and client requirements.
  • Contribute to value engineering, off-site manufacture (OSM) and constructability reviews.
  • Provide technical support to construction and commissioning teams during project execution.
  • Maintain accurate project and design records including RFIs, drawing registers, technical submittal logs, risk registers, deviation trackers and lessons learned registers.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting knowledge sharing, technical development and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Mercury Engineering at client, consultant and stakeholder meetings as required.

  • Integrate sustainable design principles into project delivery.
  • Evaluate environmental impacts and propose energy-efficient and low-carbon engineering solutions where appropriate.

 

Essential Criteria for the Role:

  • Recognised degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or equivalent; NFQ Level 8 in Ireland).
  • Minimum 7–10 years post-graduate experience, preferably within contractor and/or design consultancy environments.
  • Experience delivering mechanical building services design and supporting construction activities in the Data Centre, Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences or Industrial sectors.
  • Strong technical competence across mechanical systems including HVAC, critical cooling, plumbing and fire protection.
  • Good understanding of statutory consent processes and building regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead coordination meetings and manage interfaces within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency with relevant design and construction software platforms such as Revit, Navisworks, ACC/BIM 360, Bluebeam or similar CDE systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Chartered Engineer status or active progression toward chartership.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.
  • Financial and commercial awareness.
  • Experience working on international projects.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites in Ireland and abroad as required.
