Scope of Role
As a Quality Engineer Lead you are required to provide hands-on leadership for construction quality execution across mechanical clean/black utilities to ensure the facility is built GMP-compliant, safe, and ready for CQV (Commissioning, Qualification, Validation). The Quality Engineer Lead drives inspection/test planning, coordinates inspectors, controls documentation quality, and ensures Right‑First‑Time turnover for assigned Test packs/systems. Our quality goal is “Zero snags at the time of the construction complete”
Key Responsibilities of the Role:
Quality Planning & Control (Execution-Focused)
Implement the Mercury ITR process in compliance with Mercury LS SOPs. Ensure the latest approved drawings/specifications are used and that changes/field redlines are controlled. Work closely with engineering, construction and Turnover teams.
Inspection Coordination & Field Supervision
Plan and coordinate day-to-day inspections for Quality Engineers (Line Walkers). Lead in-process inspections (fit‑up, dimensional checks, slope verification, supports, valve orientation, hygienic practices). Communicate with welding supervisor on NDT (RT/UT/PAUT/PT/MT) reports, repairs and re-inspections.
GMP-Driven Clean Build & Special Processes
Enforce clean build and contamination control (end-capping, segregation, FOD prevention, controlled storage). Monitor orbital welding, borescope records, and oxygen cleanliness for clean utilities. Verify surface finish and hygienic design (Ra, drainability, dead-leg criteria, gasket material suitability).
Coordination with Stakeholders
Act as the primary quality interface at the discipline level with Construction, Engineering and Turnover. Run/attend quality walkdowns, ITP kick-offs, pretest meetings, and daily readiness checks. Align with systemisation and mechanical completion criteria; support punch list generation and closure on ACC from W0 walkdowns.
Continuous Improvement
Monitor KPIs to drive quality improvements. Lead NCR root cause analysis and corrective actions for defects and failures. Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and 5S methodologies to optimize processes.
Essential Criteria for the Role:
- Mechanical qualification – Either Degree or Trade background and relevant Certificates
- Familiarity with test packs and quality documentation.
- Strong understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) requirements for pharmaceutical facilities.
- Knowledge of mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of cleanliness standards for pharmaceutical piping.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards.
