Scope of Role

Reporting to the Group Head of Data Centre (DC) Procurement, the Senior Procurement Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting the development of a best-in-class procurement function within Mercury. The position focuses on driving standardisation & consistency, enhancing supplier relationship management, and ensuring procurement activities meet the highest standards. The ideal candidate will possess broad category knowledge, with a strong emphasis on Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), and preferably have experience within the construction industry. A deep understanding of market dynamics, supplier networks, and best-practice sourcing methodologies is essential.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supplier Selection & Evaluation: Identify, assess, and onboard suppliers that meet quality, compliance, and cost objectives.
  • Project Procurement Leadership: Lead and manage procurement teams across multiple EU countries.
  • Compliance & Process Management: Monitor procurement processes to ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong supplier partnerships, conduct regular business reviews, and ensure contractual compliance.
  • Contract Negotiation: Secure favourable terms, pricing agreements, and rebates through strategic negotiations and volume leverage.
  • Risk Management: Monitor economic and geopolitical trends impacting construction materials; proactively mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure alignment with industry standards and regulations, including GMP.
  • Strategic Analysis & Reporting: Provide actionable insights to the Group Head of DC Procurement for informed decision-making.
  • Value Creation: Drive sourcing strategies, process improvements, renegotiation plans, and dispute resolution initiatives.
  • SRM Oversight: Lead quarterly reviews with strategic suppliers and maintain comprehensive supplier profiles.
  • Procurement Strategy Execution: Implement MSA agreements and incentive strategies across the supply chain.
  • Sustainability Leadership: Champion sustainability initiatives within the division.
  • ERP Implementation: Oversee continuous improvement of ERP-based procurement and material management systems.
  • Leadership: Provide strategic direction and mentorship to procurement teams.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the line manager

 

Essential Criteria

  • Proven background in strategic procurement within the construction industry.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging internal stakeholders and setting standards.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Expertise in Category Management.
  • Highly organized, process-driven, and capable of working independently.
  • Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems, and data analysis tools.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
