Mercury and QTS mark the creation of lasting social impact in the Netherlands
Together with our valued client, QTS, Mercury has made a powerful commitment to creating meaningful, measurable, and long-lasting social value throughout the lifecycle of the DC3 project and beyond in Eemshaven.
As part of QTS’ Social Value Strategy, this partnership is focused on ensuring that the benefits of the project extend far beyond its construction activity. Through a joint pledge, we are committed to creating positive and lasting opportunities for Groningen and Eemshaven, supporting the people, communities, and organisations that contribute to the regions’ growth and prosperity.
The commitment will focus on key social value themes, including education, skills development, employment opportunities, community engagement, charitable support, and wellbeing. A particular emphasis will be placed on creating pathways into education, training and employment -helping to equip local people with the skills and opportunities needed to support the long-term economic wellbeing of the region.
The pledge is designed to benefit a wide range of local stakeholders, including educational institutions, local NGOs, community groups, municipalities, and residents across the region. By working closely with these groups, we aim to build strong local relationships and ensure that social value initiatives are relevant, meaningful, and capable of delivering a lasting impact. This shared commitment was recently marked at a special event in Groningen, bringing together key representatives from Mercury and QTS, alongside local municipal officials and political representatives.
Through education, skills development and employment, we want to help create a positive legacy that extends well beyond the construction phase.
The occasion provided an opportunity to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in the partnership and formally recognise the shared ambition behind the commitment. A ceremonial signing of a charter formed part of the event, symbolising the collaboration and collective intent to continue delivering positive social impact throughout the project and beyond.
Speaking at the event, Seamus Reilly Managing Director of Enterprise Data Centres at Mercury said, “We are proud to make this commitment alongside our valued client QTS to support Groningen and Eemshaven. Creating social value means more than delivering a successful project. It’s about creating lasting opportunities and benefits for the local community. Through education, skills development and employment, we want to help create a positive legacy that extends well beyond the construction phase.”
For Mercury, this commitment reflects a wider, long-term dedication to the regions in which we live and work. Creating opportunities for education, training and employment is central to our approach and forms an important part of our broader ESG programme.
We are proud to be partnering with QTS to turn this shared ambition into action. By combining our strengths and working alongside local stakeholders, we are committed to delivering social value that is not only measurable during the life of the project but leaves a positive legacy for the Groningen and Eemshaven communities for years to come.
