Setting our people up for success: Wellbeing at Mercury
Our employees’ wellbeing is a core component of our Work Safe, Home Safe ethos. On our projects across Europe, we’re committed to creating a culture where our people can reach their best and feel their best, professionally and personally. We understand that for our people to do their jobs to the best of their abilities, it’s crucial that they feel secure, supported and empowered.
In September 2025, we launched a brand-new Employee Assistance Programme- The Mercury Wellbeing Hub. The digital platform provides our people with access to a wide range of supports for their mental, physical and financial wellbeing. This includes direct access to counselling and psychotherapy, nutrition advice, physical therapy and rehabilitation support, as well as financial advice. The platform removes traditional barriers to access, with no referral process, no waiting lists and is completely confidential.
We know that construction is a male dominated industry and mental health issues are impacting both younger and older men now more than ever, so it’s crucial that we break down some of these pervasive stigmas.
Niamh Gilmore, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator at Mercury, has been visiting our project teams across Europe, hosting information sessions to help our people get up and running on the Mercury Wellbeing Hub. “It’s been fantastic to connect with our teams in person and show them the benefits of our new hub. We want to drive positive change and tackle the men’s mental health crisis head-on and support where we can. We know that construction is a male dominated industry and mental health issues are impacting both younger and older men now more than ever, so it’s crucial that we break down some of these pervasive stigmas.”
Care Connect is a 24-7 support facility that all Mercury employees have access to in case of a mental health emergency. This facility provides employees with access to a trained professional at all times. Providing our people with a robust and tangible support system is crucial, as we want our people to feel the best day-in and day-out.
Mercury also offers employees the chance to take part in a Mental Health First Aider course which equips our people with skills and tools, not only to support their own mental health but also to help colleagues, loved ones or members of our communities who are struggling. So far employees have completed the training course. Regular and proactive upskilling is crucial to developing our people and enhancing our supportive culture.
Upon completion, participants are equipped with the necessary skills to help someone in a crisis situation, from gaining a greater understanding of the development of mental health issues to putting action plans into place for helping themselves or someone in need. The feedback from employees has been overwhelmingly positive.
We believe that a safe place to work is a safe place to talk, and to achieve this, investment in creating a supportive culture where everyone can reach their full potential is important.
