“Mercury Sets The Standard For Safety In Our Industry.” EHS Advisor Intisar Mayel on Making Safety Real on Site
For Intisar Mayel, Environmental Health and Safety Advisor on the PAR 11 Data Centre project in Paris Digital Park, safety is a shared responsibility lived every day. Her work focuses on planning, prevention and communication to ensure Mercury’s best-in-class standards are upheld across every task and team.
Originally from Tunisia, Intisar holds a PhD in Environmental Engineering and has worked in EHS roles across Tunisia, France and Spain. She joined Mercury in 2024, drawn by what she describes as “a company setting the standard for safety in our industry.”
“Safety is present in every action and every decision made at Mercury”
“My job starts with prevention,” she said. “I look at potential risks early, plan carefully, and make sure everyone is clear on what’s expected.”
Each morning, Intisar joins supervisors and teams for the Golden Hour, a dedicated time before work begins when plans are reviewed, controls are checked, and objectives are aligned. “We come early to make sure that everything we have, such as documents, procedures and permits, is in place and followed,” she said. “Safety has to be visible on site, not just written down”.
That structure reinforces Mercury’s proactive approach to safety and its commitment to prevention at every stage of delivery.
Having worked across multiple sectors and countries, Intisar understands how leadership shapes culture.
“I have seen that the strongest results come when safety is lived as a value, not an obligation. At Mercury, leadership and teams work together so that safety is part of every action.”
She believes this consistency defines Mercury’s culture. “Safety is present in every action and every decision made at Mercury,” she said. “It is visible in how teams plan, communicate and support one another.”
“Real safety depends on creating an environment where everyone feels empowered to speak up”
Communication, for Intisar, is what keeps people connected and engaged. “When we speak with people, we can see if there is any issue, physical or mental,” she said. “That is how we understand what is really happening.”
The rollout of Mercury’s digital Safety Observation Report (SOR) programme has strengthened this environment by giving employees and partners a straightforward way to identify and report risks before they develop into incidents. “It is a simple tool that helps us act early and improve continuously,” she said.
For Intisar, this reflects the true meaning of Mercury’s Work Safe, Home Safe value. “We plan carefully in controlled zones and pay attention to every detail, from physical health to mental wellbeing. Safety at Mercury is integrated into behaviour, into decision making and company culture”.
WORK SAFE HOME SAFE
Safety is our anchor value. It underpins everything that we do. It’s a mindset that’s firmly fixed in every individual, team, and rank throughout Mercury and our supply chain.
Safety is embedded in our DNA. It’s the bedrock of our delivery, training, and processes. We insist that it is a fundamental component of every facet of our business. We never, ever take this for granted.
Without our people we are nothing. This fact means that every individual within Mercury is accountable. Safety isn’t just our policy, it’s our duty.
