Celebrating Our People: Mercury’s Long Service Programme
At Mercury, our people are at the centre of what we do, and we recognise the importance of celebrating their commitment and outstanding contributions to our success and continued growth.
The Long Service Award Programme celebrates key milestones in our people’s journeys at Mercury. Employees receive a Long Service Award when they reach a new milestone year (which are measured in 5-year increments from the employees’ start date). Employees receive a special lapel pin, a certificate acknowledging their years of service, and a gift.
Providing visible career development opportunities for our people is crucial and the Long Service Award recipients are testament to building an evolving career with Mercury that meets their personal goals and business needs.
As the employer of choice in the pan-European construction sector, we back our people to reach their full potential, providing them with challenging opportunities in a supportive environment.
Intrinsic to developing our people is providing meaningful training opportunities for employees across the business. Talent Development Manager, Dara Smith commented “Providing visible career development opportunities for our people is crucial and the Long Service Award recipients are testament to building an evolving career with Mercury that meets their personal goals and business needs.” He continues, “Our development opportunities range from our Graduate Programme which helps our young people to launch their careers, to our leadership development programme which prepares senior employees for continued success, focusing on leadership and critical business subject areas.”
Jody Boyle, Electrical Estimating Manager, marked a major milestone last year when the Long Service Programme first launched. Jody celebrated 50 years with Mercury in 2024. Having joined the company as an Electrical Apprentice in 1974, he’s played an instrumental role in the company’s growth. “We’ve changed and adapted in a myriad different ways, but through our work on various kinds of projects we have learned a lot of new skills. This, combined with some positive structural changes over the past few years have set Mercury apart as an industry leader and I’m proud to have been part of that journey” he says.
Jody has made remarkable growth with Mercury- from working directly with founders, Frank O’Kane and Joe Morgan as an electrical apprentice to playing a key role on advanced projects in Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden and more. He notes that despite the evolving nature of the company’s operations “one thing that’s stood out to me and it’s the reason I’ve stayed all this time, is that despite so much change, Mercury’s values have remained inherent, that willingness to adapt, evolve and be leaders has always been there.”
Ann Hamilton-Lyons, Head of HR Operations commented, “Congratulations to all who have received a Long Service Award over recent months. It’s crucial that we acknowledge the contributions of our people, especially at crucial milestone markers. It’s been wonderful to see first-hand the impressive growth and development that so many of our team members have made with Mercury.”
