Mercury neutralises 33,000 kg of CO2 emissions through tree planting initiative

Guided by our steadfast commitment to the “Our Planet Our Duty” strategy, Mercury has embarked on a journey to enact positive change.

We are delighted to share that we have planted 1500 trees – 750 in Germany and 750 in the Global South – a total which effectively neutralises 33,000 kg of CO2 emissions.

Our European contribution will span the area between Berlin and Frankfurt (Oder), transforming arable land owned by the cooperative into a thriving forest. This initiative takes place near two major data centre campus projects that Mercury is delivering in the Berlin area. With our presence in the region, it is our view that we positively impact the local communities in which we operate.

As we look ahead, we envision a local landscape adorned with 14,000 trees, representing a diverse array of 16 different tree species. Each of these has the potential to absorb approximately 22 kg of CO2 annually, fortifying the fight against climate change.

Forests play a pivotal role in safeguarding the world’s dwindling biodiversity, offering a sanctuary for animals, birds, insects, and microorganisms. We believe that protecting and restoring forests yield a profound influence in rectifying the imbalances of our planet.
