Promoting safer workplaces and employee wellbeing through digital tools

Digital solutions are revolutionising the workplace, and at Mercury, we are fully committed to embracing innovation across all aspects of our operations.

As a leader in the construction sector, our digital offerings extend beyond project delivery to encompass the well-being and safety of our employees.

One of our recent initiatives is the launch of our Wellness@Mercury online platform, which provides our workforce with weekly updates on a wide range of crucial topics related to mental and physical health.

Since its launch in May 2023, the platform has garnered an impressive monthly engagement of over 2,000 interactions from our employees.

We believe that prioritizing the health and well-being of our people is crucial for their personal and professional success. Mercury’s Work Safe | Home Safe culture reinforces our commitment to fostering a positive well-being environment throughout the company. We understand that when our employees feel supported and cared for, they can thrive as individuals and as teams.

Prioritising our people

Group Health and Wellbeing Coordinator Niamh Gilmore highlights our use of digital tools to deliver key messages, stating, “Providing weekly content has helped us advance our approach to well-being at Mercury. We can see what resonates with our teams and which topics people are interested in. As a result, this helps us address and cater to their evolving needs, so we are aware if more employees than usual want to complete our mental health first aid training course or need assistance in a certain area. It’s very beneficial and is central to the evolving nature of the business where our people are a number one priority.”

Living our Work Safe | Home Safe ethos

Mercury’s digital solutions not only encourage open discussions on mental health but also contribute to a happier and more productive workforce. Construction professionals face challenges that can impact their work-life balance and overall well-being, including demanding schedules, extended periods away from loved ones, and physically demanding tasks.

Mercury’s well-being channel addresses these concerns through unique content, equipping our teams with the knowledge and skills to navigate these challenges effectively. When equipped with these skills, our teams not only experience improved well-being but also perform better at work, enhancing productivity at a broader level.

Through our Work Safe | Home Safe ethos, we prioritize the well-being of our employees. By utilizing digital tools and fostering a positive work culture, we empower our teams to thrive personally and professionally, allowing us to deliver cutting-edge construction solutions efficiently and effectively.

Leveraging digital tools to drive positive culture

“This initiative was designed with our Work Safe, Home Safe ethos in mind,” emphasizes Robbie O’Dowd, Group Environmental, Health and Safety Manager. “In the last few years, we have made a commitment to driving well-being across the group. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our Business Applications team for their innovative contributions and dedication to ensuring this vital messaging reaches our people each week.”

Robbie O’Dowd’s insight underscores the importance of technology in fostering a positive culture at Mercury. By utilising the right technological solutions, Mercury places the well-being of its people at the forefront, enabling them to perform at their best. This commitment allows our teams to continue delivering leading-edge construction solutions efficiently and effectively, while prioritising the well-being and safety of employees throughout their journey.

We are dedicated to achieving the highest possible standards of Health & Safety. Safety is embedded in our DNA, it is the Mercury way – from design to construction, commissioning, and handover – our safety processes ensure adequate coordination and communication to enable our projects to be constructed safely.

Our team understand that by sticking to the safe coordinated plan we can guarantee that our people get home safely to their families at the end of every day. Safety is personal and we intervene proactively to ensure compliance day by day and hour by hour. We respect our workforce, and they respect our management as an integrated team with a common goal – to get home safe each day. Through our Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) policies and procedures, we ensure an industry leading project delivery every time and most importantly – the safety and wellbeing of all our employees.
