At Mercury, we believe that safety is personal. We respect our workforce, and they respect our management, as an integrated team with a common goal – to get everyone home safely each day.

Focal to our industry leading safety culture is the delivery of best-in-class training on our project sites throughout Europe.

We are providing our innovative Making Safety Personal™ (MSP) training course to our people, supply-chain partners and clients throughout the regions in which we operate and have recorded positive feedback from both internal and external stakeholders as we continue to safely deliver leading-edge construction projects.

Our MSP training programme was recently recognised as ‘over and above’ industry training standards by local regulatory authorities, during a recent visit to one of our data centre projects in Frankfurt, Germany.

It was noted that this training is extremely proactive in bridging the gap between statutory and in house training, and in preventing deviations from the agreed safety plan. MSP assigns personal accountability to all, which offers a unique learning experience for all stakeholders.

We have recorded an impressive EHS performance on this project, which has been greatly influenced by the positive culture of collaboration and communication that MSP promotes.

Ultimately, MSP is a training class with a difference, as it examines each individual’s personal relationship with safety, and also includes a practical wellbeing module. It explores why we work to live and considers how all personal activities and relationships outside the workplace can be affected by an individual taking a safety risk.

This exercise underlines Mercury’s commitment to bridging the behavioural aspect of the causes of accidents, incidents and near misses. Our approach to safety has made a real impact on personal accountability and conduct on this project in Frankfurt, and throughout our European sites.

Commenting on Mercury’s renowned safety culture, Philip McCarthy, Lead EHS Advisor on this project said: “From the moment you step foot on site, it’s clear that safety is Mercury’s number one priority. From our site safety hoarding to our dedicated induction room and the standards of training we offer, our approach to reinforcing our motto of Work Safe – Home Safe, is inadmissible.”

“Our secure site set-up on this project ensures that all personnel and site visitors must provide negative Covid-19 antigen tests upon arrival. Supply-chain partners can avail of a dedicated welfare refuge compound and all toolbox talks and meetings are delivered at our dedicated safety station before works commence each day.

“Our MSP training is the most personal of its kind on a global level and has received excellent feedback from our supply-chain and clients. Alongside all of this, Mercury’s Safety Management System and positive EHS culture ensures that we are providing all stakeholders with the tools and training required to make positive safety interventions. This ultimately ensures that all return home safely to their loved ones at the end of every working day.”
