Mercury recently completed the MV/LV Electrical installation of the prestigious Bon Secours Hospital Cork Northern Block Extension Project. The Bon Secours Hospital in Cork is the largest private hospital in Ireland and has been operating for over 100 years. The hospital has more than 300 beds and employs more than 1,100 staff, admitting approximately 35,000 patients every year. It is an acute general hospital providing an extensive range of medical and surgical specialties for adults and children. The new extension comprising six state of the art floors, over 80 private rooms, a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and two operating theatres.

The work Mercury carried out involved the fitting of over 3550 Light Fittings, 1600 sockets and over 70,000 metres of BMS Cable. We have also implemented state of the art security, CCTV, access control and panic alarms on all the hospital’s floors. Mercury made extensive use of several innovative techniques including LEAN best practice including just in time (JIT) deliveries and offsite fabrication to deliver the project, enabling us to deliver more quickly and cost-effectively for our client.

The centre opened in July 2019 and expects to treat patients with two advanced radiotherapy systems used for a variety of cancers. A new road and a bridge over the River Lee were constructed in order to allow construction traffic access to the rear of the hospital. This road will be used as a permanent entry to the hospital once opened.
