Insights: Mercury’s Paul Carthy discusses Data Centres on Property Matters Radio

Last week, on 14 May 2019, Mercury’s Head of Data Centre Business Development Paul Carthy appeared on the Property Matters radio show on Dublin South 93.9FM. The show was guest hosted by Garry Connolly, president of Data Centre industry group ‘Host in Ireland’ and featured a panel also comprising a number of leading industry experts including Maurice Mortell of Equinix, Valerie Walsh of Digital Reality, Anthony McDermott of Mitchel McDermott, Dave McAuley and John Coroner of Ethos Engineering.

Paul Carthy commented on a variety of aspects affecting the industry including the importance of knowledge transfer and FDI in Ireland, stating “Ireland benefited more than any other country in Europe from foreign direct investment in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and we did what we always do [in Ireland] and we learned very quickly. When [our clients] moved into Europe, we went with them … relationships are hugely important, and trust. You bring the lessons learned and the knowledge transferred from one project to the next. It works for the client because they’re working with the same [Mercury] team in multiple jurisdictions.”

Listen to Paul speak on the final panel from 36 minutes onward.
