“Mercury’s Graduate Programme Has Given Me a Clear Picture of Where my Career is Going.”- Bill Murphy On His Graduate Experience
Graduate CSA Engineer Bill Murphy joined Mercury after studying Construction Management and Engineering at SETU Waterford. Drawn by the scale of Mercury’s projects and the opportunity to build a career across Europe, he began his graduate journey on site in Amsterdam before relocating to Helsinki, where he’s now working on one of Mercury’s major data centre projects.
Day to day, Bill coordinates with contractors, supports design coordination, manages quality and has been trusted to take ownership of his own package on site, giving him meaningful responsibility early in his career.
One of the biggest benefits of the Graduate Programme, Bill says, has been the opportunity to gain experience beyond his core role. Alongside his site responsibilities, he’s been exposed to design coordination and wider construction management, helping him build a broader understanding of how complex projects are delivered.
“I had never been involved in design before joining Mercury, so it’s been great to learn that side of it. I’ve been trusted with different areas of work which has helped me understand quickly what my strengths are and what I enjoy.”
That experience has helped shape Bill’s ambitions for the future.
