Mercury World Suicide Prevention Day

Mercury Marks World Suicide Prevention Day 2025 Across Our European Projects

A Safe Place to Work is a Safe Place to Talk. That message is displayed across our projects in a campaign launched for World Suicide Prevention Day.  At Mercury, we believe that wellbeing and safety go hand in hand. Wellbeing is underpinned by our value of Work Safe, Home Safe, and this campaign reflects our commitment to wholly protecting both the physical and mental health of our people.

World Suicide Prevention Day is a moment to confront the mental health risks in construction head on. Our industry continues to face some of the highest suicide rates, and we are addressing this with a stronger, more dynamic approach to wellbeing that spans mental, physical and financial health.

Mercury’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead, Niamh Gilmore said:

World Suicide Prevention Day is a powerful moment of reflection, but also a chance to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to mental health. We’ve taken meaningful steps to evolve our approach to wellbeing — not just responding to needs, but anticipating them, with care and intention. Our focus is on making sure that support is visible, accessible and embedded in how we work every day.

Earlier this month, we launched the Mercury Wellbeing Hub as part of that commitment. The Hub is available worldwide, in every language, and offers 24/7 confidential access to counselling, life coaching, financial guidance, nutrition support and rehabilitation services for Mercury employees and their immediate families. It removes barriers such as waiting lists and referral requirements and reflects our belief that our performance is only as good as our people. To ensure this information is always within reach, we have launched an extensive poster campaign and distributed car air fresheners across our projects that display the service details. By fostering a culture of inclusion and support that offers the right tools and resources, we create an environment where our people can operate at their best.

We are expanding the presence of mental health first aiders across our sites, running awareness campaigns, and hosting regular initiatives such as Townhalls and webinars. We continue to work with partners including Aware, Pieta House and Angela Hayes from Teac Tom, who are active across projects in Europe, bringing support directly to our teams.

We are committed to creating a culture where people can reach their best and feel their best. By embedding wellbeing into daily working life, we ensure our people feel secure, supported and able to reach their potential. Mercury is building a safe place to work and a safe place to talk, today and every day.
