Building Europe’s Most Resilient Supply Chain: Mercury’s Vision and Strategy
As we grow in all our sectors across Europe, Mercury’s reputation as the preferred company to work with in our markets precedes us. Our approach to supply chain management is built on certainty of delivery, quality, and trusted partnerships. As the European leader in construction solutions, these values underpin every project we deliver.
At Data Centre World Frankfurt 2025, Supply Chain Sourcing Specialist, Alexander Byakov shared how building resilient supply chains supports long-term delivery confidence. His presentation focused on practical steps to absorb shocks, manage risk, and strengthen supplier relationships. This ambition aligns with Mercury’s goal to build the best supply chain in Europe by being great to work with, expanding our footprint, and fostering long-term partnerships that support innovation and sustainability.
Delivering Certainty Through Supply Chain Resilience
Mercury is committed to building a resilient supply chain. This serious dedication turns clients into partners, people into teams, and builds relationships that thrive.
Supply chain resilience is critical to operational continuity and long-term success
As global demand for data centre infrastructure increases, delivery environments are becoming more complex. Shifting regulations, regional instability, and economic disruption have made adaptability essential. Supply chains must be able to respond quickly and continue to perform under pressure.
In his presentation at Data Center World Frankfurt, Alexander described how Mercury supports supply chain resilience through supplier diversity, agile procurement, and clear data insight:
- Supplier diversification: Engaging multi-regional and innovative suppliers to strengthen reliability and delivery performance.
- Proactive risk management: Using risk mapping and scenario planning to anticipate disruptions, supported by pre-qualified backup suppliers and modular, prefabricated solutions for rapid response and less time of risky exposure on site.
- Procurement flexibility: Embedding adaptable contract structures and harmonised specifications to allow switching between suppliers and materials, where technically feasible without compromising compliance or quality.
- Digital tools for visibility: Leveraging real-time platforms and predictive analytics to give accurate data on supplier performance, work-load capacity, and risk points.
These measures reflect Mercury’s commitment to building supply chain networks that are resilient, efficient, and designed to meet future demand, supporting our ambition to be great to work with and deliver to world-class standards on every project.
At Mercury, Suppliers Are Partners
Suppliers are not just service providers at Mercury. They are long-term partners, and building smooth, consistent and collaborative relationships is central to how we work.
We value our suppliers as equals, involving them early so they can bring their expertise to process design and solution development.
In line with this approach, Mercury is developing standardised subcontractor and supplier processes across all regions. The goal is to make it straightforward to work with us, regardless of size. These efforts are designed to support long-term partnerships, strengthen delivery certainty and create shared value through clear expectations and aligned ways of working.
Building the Best Supply Chain in Europe
Mercury’s supply chain strategy is designed to support consistent, high-quality delivery across project types, locations and procurement models. The aim is to make it easier for our teams and our partners to deliver with certainty, every time.
This depends on clearly defined processes. Onboarding, tender feedback, compliance templates and payment terms are all standardised across our work. When these elements are aligned, suppliers spend less time adapting and more time contributing to delivery.
Shared accountability underpins how we work. Our teams know what to expect from suppliers, and suppliers know what to expect from us. This clarity supports quality, predictability and efficiency across every project.
To support this, Mercury has established clear, standardised processes that make collaboration straightforward and predictable. These include:
- Standardised NDAs to speed up engagement and allow early discussion of project details.
- Efficient RFP processes to improve how opportunities are shared and sourced.
- Framework agreements with consistent terms across projects, reducing risk and supporting long-term stability.
- Rebate agreements that reward commitment from both Mercury and suppliers.
Our approach reframes how we work with suppliers. Procurement is no longer seen as a transactional function. Instead, it becomes a platform for co-creating smarter, more integrated solutions. Addressing the audience at Data Centre World, Alexander highlighted that “the supply chain is no longer a cost centre. It is a source of shared value and competitive advantage”. This perspective runs through Mercury’s strategy to build the best supply chain in Europe, defined by consistency, collaboration and long-term trust.
