Back to Basics: Mercury puts safety behaviours into practice during CIF Construction Safety Campaign
Mercury marked this year’s CIF Construction Safety Campaign with six days dedicated to the fundamentals of safe work and the behaviours that bring them to life on site.
Each day gave teams and supply chain partners a clear focus:
- Start Right, Stay Right: prepare properly before work begins.
- Safety and Wellbeing First: Prioritise physical safety & mental health and ensure daily readiness for work.
- Highest Safety Standards: Ensure that the best practice controls are in place.
- No Shortcuts: never let pressure override a safe plan.
- Look Out for Each Other: notice risks and support colleagues.
- Speak Up and Engage: raise concerns and take part in finding a solution.
Across Europe, Mercury’s project teams used briefings, demonstrations and discussions to bring the themes into their daily work. Activities addressed lifting, working at height and electrical safety, alongside fatigue, mental wellbeing and the confidence to speak up.
“Safety is shaped by the behaviours we demonstrate every day. This year’s Back to Basics focus gave our people the opportunity to challenge how we work and reinforce the standards we expect on every project.” said QEHS Director Tony Sheridan.
WORK SAFE HOME SAFE
Safety is our anchor value. It underpins everything that we do. It’s a mindset that’s firmly fixed in every individual, team, and rank throughout Mercury and our supply chain.
Safety is embedded in our DNA. It’s the bedrock of our delivery, training, and processes. We insist that it is a fundamental component of every facet of our business. We never, ever take this for granted.
Without our people we are nothing. This fact means that every individual within Mercury is accountable. Safety isn’t just our policy, it’s our duty.
