Beyond the moustache – Mercury continues to champion men’s wellbeing this Movember

After a hugely successful campaign in 2024, Mercury is proud to once again take part in Movember, reinforcing our commitment to raising awareness and funds for men’s health. Last year, Mercury raised over €100,000 and was recognised with a hat-trick of awards at the Movember Mo Awards, including Top Overall Team, Construction Challenge Winner, and Movember Business Club Champion. These achievements reflected the extraordinary teamwork and generosity of employees across the business.

Why Movember matters to our industry

Movember is especially relevant to Mercury and the wider construction industry, which remains predominantly male and continues to face serious challenges around mental and physical health. With men three to four times more likely to die by suicide, and many delaying or avoiding routine health checks, the importance of proactive support and open dialogue cannot be overstated. Mercury is committed to breaking down the stigma that often surrounds these issues and to fostering a culture where people feel empowered to speak up, seek help, and take action.

Through our wellbeing programmes, and ongoing health campaigns, we’re committed to creating a workplace where every individual feels supported -both mentally and physically.

Building on last year’s momentum

“Movember 2024 was a milestone moment for Mercury. The level of engagement, generosity, and teamwork shown across the business was nothing short of incredible. But what mattered most was the awareness we raised, especially around mental health in the construction industry. This year, we’re continuing to build that momentum. Speaking about our efforts to foster a safe environment for our people,  Louis Kroucamp, Head of EHS at Mercury remarked, „through our wellbeing programmes, and ongoing health campaigns, we’re committed to creating a workplace where every individual feels supported – both mentally and physically.“

For Movember 2025, Mercury teams at sites across Europe are engaged in various activities, physical challenges, and unique fundraising events that raise awareness and deliver impact -not just for the duration of the campaign, but throughout the year. The intention of these activities is to bring people together and promote a sense of shared experience and camaraderie amongst team members.

Wellbeing as a core value

This campaign aligns with Mercury’s broader commitment to total wellbeing, reflected in the company’s core value of WorkSafe, HomeSafe. Wellbeing at Mercury goes beyond mental health support -it includes a strong focus on physical health, safety, and long-term resilience. The company actively promotes healthy lifestyle habits across its workforce through a range of initiatives, including fitness challenges, site-based wellbeing events, and awareness campaigns around topics such as cancer prevention, cardiovascular health, and early detection. These efforts are designed to encourage everyone across the business to take ownership of their health and to support one another in doing the same.

Over the past four years, Mercury has invested over €260,000 into health and wellbeing programmes for our people and the communities in which we operate -a reflection of our company’s belief that wellbeing is not just a campaign, but a long-term commitment.

Strengthening support for our people

In the past year, we have also strengthened our internal support systems. The recent launch of a new Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offers all employees and their families access to confidential counselling and expert guidance across a range of wellbeing needs, including mental, physical, and financial health. At the same time, the Mental Health First Aiders programme continues to grow, providing peer-to-peer support across sites and offices to ensure that help is accessible when and where it’s needed.

Mercury’s approach to wellbeing is built on the belief that people are at their best when they feel safe, supported, and empowered. By creating a workplace that prioritises wellbeing in a practical, inclusive, and sustainable way, we continue to invest in our most important asset -our people.
