Edith Cavell Acute Hospital

Peterborough & Scope of Work

  • Mercury provided the complete Mechanical & Electrical Services on the Edith Cavell Acute Hospital in Peterborough, UK.

  • The 90,000 m² acute hospital includes 762 in patient beds and 22 operating theatres.

  • Extensive thermal modelling of the buildings was used to maximise the use of natural ventilation helping to achieve stringent energy targets for the project.

  • Further carbon savings were met by installation of a Combined Heat and Power plant in the Acute Hospital energy centre which will generate electricity on site and use waste heat to feed the hospital’s heating system and hot water supplies.

  • This hospital now serves the population of Greater Peterborough and South West Lincolnshire.
