In late 2017, Mercury’s Building Services Business Unit was contracted to carry out the electrical works for the redevelopment of The Curragh Racecourse.
The centrepiece of the redevelopment was the creation of a major new grandstand with five-star corporate facilities, restaurants, bars and superb viewing facilities for the public. There is also a new arrivals and reception area incorporating a new visitor attraction which includes a museum created to celebrate the history of racing in Ireland and the contribution Ireland has made to the sport globally.
The project mainly comprised the following building elements:
• Early Handover Phase 1 Works – These works were completed in March 2018 to allow racing to continue while the main works where ongoing.
• New Grandstand – The 10,500 square metre stand caters for up to 6,000 people inside its four levels while its surrounds can cope with over 10,000. The stand’s 7,000 square metre roof consists of 1,400 tonnes of structural steel, 8,900 tonnes of precast concrete, and 4,300 square metres of glazing.
• Parade Ring
