{"id":8103,"date":"2022-05-17T16:06:08","date_gmt":"2022-05-17T16:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mercuryeng.com\/?p=8103"},"modified":"2022-05-17T16:10:11","modified_gmt":"2022-05-17T16:10:11","slug":"providing-access-to-better-career-choices-for-secondary-school-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mercuryeng.com\/de\/2022\/05\/17\/providing-access-to-better-career-choices-for-secondary-school-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Providing access to better career choices for secondary school students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We recently visited two schools in Dublin, Ireland, where we sponsored access to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Ingenium\u2019s Pathway Survey, which helps students to understand their career choices, based on their own decision-making styles, hobbies and interests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mercury provided access to Pathway for\u00a0130 students from CBS James Street, and\u00a0Warrenmount Secondary School.<\/p>\n<p>This survey can be a costly option for both parents and schools, and Mercury&#8217;s support ensures that students in their senior cycle have a clearer idea of the areas that they might be best suited to pursue in their future careers.<\/p>\n<p>Our corporate giving programme supports a number of the UN&#8217;s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which includes reduced inequalities, gender equality and access to programmes. The Pathway Survey will play an important role in leveling the playing field for these students who may not otherwise have access to such useful career insights.<\/p>\n<p>Pathway helps students to plan more fulfilling lives, by making well-informed decisions about their education and careers, especially as they consider the courses available to them at third level. This opens conversations between career guidance counsellors and their students, and helps to mitigate against the risk of students dropping out of a college course they are not suited to.<\/p>\n<p>According Olivia Hayes of<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Ingenium: <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cThe aim of the Pathway survey is to help teenagers identify career options most suited to them and help them make the right choices as early as possible to enjoy successful careers.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Pathway Survey and report form only part of the educational offerings developed by Ingenium. Other aspects include a personal development programme, delivered via video, for class discussion on important topics which include conflict resolution and time management, which help students to learn social skills needed to enjoy successful future careers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pauline Queally, Principle at St James\u2019 Street, said: \u201cUsing this survey gives our students the opportunity to inform themselves of possible future career options and gives them hope that they would be good at something in a future career, which gives<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0them the confidence to pursue a third level qualification.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS \u2013 OUR PLANET, OUR DUTY<\/h3>\n<p>We believe that we each have a role to play in contributing to the sustainable development of our planet.
