At Mercury, we believe that we each have a responsibility to promote the contribution of the dynamic females on our global teams. While this industry is widely regarded as male dominated, we have a role to play in inspiring the next generation to become part of an exciting future for construction, which places women and equality to the forefront.<\/p>\n

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2022, and as part of our ongoing Women in Construction interview series, we are spotlighting the achievements of many of our exceptional female employees.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, we spoke to Amy Doyle an EHS Advisor<\/a> who gave insight into her experience of working alongside her father Fred, at Mercury’s Offsite Assembly facility in Co. Kildare, Ireland.<\/p>\n

The second interview in this years series focuses on Carmen Marco Cosgaya, who is a Junior Project Manager, working on a data centre project in Madrid, Spain. Carmen, who originally took up a role with Mercury as a civil engineer back in March 2020, has enjoyed a distinguished beginning to her Mercury career and was promoted to Junior Project Manager last year.<\/p>\n

Why is it important to celebrate International Women’s Day?<\/h4>\n

„For me, International Women’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to identify, promote and celebrate the wonderful achievements of women. Not just in construction but also in other areas of life!“<\/p>\n

What are the challenges of being a woman in construction?<\/h4>\n

„As a young woman in construction I have not experienced any challenges related to my age or gender, and thanks to Mercury’s culture of diversity and inclusion I have really enjoyed the past 2+ years working with the company. I believe that a crucial factor in all aspects of life and work, is to act in a natural way and show the good professional and person that you are. Through this, others will see your actions and treat you with the same respect and dignity that you show them.“<\/p>\n

What has been your biggest career milestone to date?<\/h4>\n

„I was recently promoted to Junior Project Manager which is my greatest career achievement to date. My management and colleagues supported both this promotion and my further career development which is really inspiring.“<\/p>\n

What advice do you have for women who want to pursue a career in the construction industry?<\/h4>\n

„The role that women play in the construction industry is ever growing which is exciting. My advice for any female that wants to work in construction is to work on developing your self-confidence, and believe in yourself and your goals. Know the project better than anyone else. Understand your strengths but also be aware of your weaknesses, and never by afraid to ask colleagues for help.“<\/p>\n
