Mercury recently held an internal \u2018refocus\u2019 event for all staff, communicating our environmental policy as part of a 4-part series on our ongoing \u2018Our Planet, Our Duty<\/a>\u2019 plan for responsible business.<\/p>\n

Mercury hosted an internal virtual launch which was led by Group EHS Director Michael O\u2019Connor and EHS Manager Robert O\u2019Dowd and was well attended by members of management, employees, and other key stakeholders.<\/p>\n

Attendees were invited to engage in a Q&A session which provided many useful opinions, ideas, and insights into how Mercury can improve upon our dedication to responsible business.<\/p>\n

Our environmental policy, which has guided Mercury on environmental matters for twenty years, reflects our commitment to ensuring best practices are implemented across the group.<\/p>\n

Each year we review and observe any employee & subcontractor activities that can impact the environment. By encouraging and developing a culture of good environmental practices we are committed to responsibly interacting with our people to ensure that Mercury continues to comply with local environmental legislation to ensure that we do not negatively affect the areas in which we operate.<\/p>\n

What do we continually commit to?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 Continually improving our environmental performance by protecting the environment and preventing pollution.
\n\u2022 Reducing waste generation and segregation of waste products.
\n\u2022 Re-using certain waste products such as wooden pallets and cable drums.
\n\u2022 Striving for sustainable use of materials.
\n\u2022 Continued efforts to minimise Mercury\u2019s environmental impacts.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the re-launch of our environmental policy update, Group EHS Director, Michael O\u2019Connor said: \u201cIt is vital to offer our management, employees, and stakeholders an opportunity to contribute their perspectives about how we can improve environmental sustainability at Mercury. Environmental sustainability is responsibly interacting with the planet to maintain natural resources and avoid jeopardizing the ability of future generations to meet their needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cSustainability is important for many reasons including: Environmental Quality \u2013 In order to have healthy communities, we need clean air, natural resources, and a nontoxic environment. Sustainability aims to use our resources efficiently to benefit our business and the local community in the regions we operate.<\/p>\n

\u201cSustainability means meeting the company\u2019s leads without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In addition to natural resources, we also need economic and social resources. Sustainability is not just environmentalism.\u201d<\/p>\n

Our Planet, Our Duty<\/h4>\n

We believe that we each have a role to play in contributing to the sustainable development of our planet. With this in mind, we have launched Our Planet, Our Duty, our Responsible Business plan. Our Planet, Our Duty is our promise to help create a more sustainable environment around us.
