The Mercury team returned to Cannes this month for\u00a0Datacloud\u00a0Global Congress 2026, one of the most influential events in the digital infrastructure calendar. This year\u2019s event welcomed\u00a0almost\u00a07,000 attendees, a 75 per cent increase on the previous year, reflecting the\u00a0rapid\u00a0growth of the sector and the scale of investment being made across Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

As discussions around AI, power availability and delivery capacity continue to shape the industry, another challenge featured prominently throughout the event: how organisations build the workforce needed to support long-term growth\u00a0amid\u00a0increasing labour market pressures.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mercury joined clients,\u00a0partners\u00a0and industry leaders to discuss this topic, with Chief People Officer Joanne Cluxton participating in a panel focused on\u00a0<\/span>building a long-term pipeline to create a resilient workforce.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/p>\n

Your Vision Our Duty:\u00a0Strengthening Our Employee Value Proposition<\/span><\/h2>\n

As Europe\u2019s leading data centre construction provider, Mercury continues to grow its delivery capability across the continent. In 2025, the company achieved \u20ac2 billion in revenue while delivering projects for some of the world\u2019s leading corporations. At any given time, Mercury has approximately 30 live projects across 16 countries.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the industry continues to navigate labour shortages, Mercury\u00a0remains\u00a0focused on attracting,\u00a0developing\u00a0and\u00a0retaining\u00a0the talent needed to support its growth across Europe.\u00a0Speaking at\u00a0Datacloud, Joanne Cluxton highlighted the importance\u00a0of\u00a0investing in people and creating clear opportunities for growth:<\/span><\/p>\n

That commitment can be seen across Mercury\u2019s approach to learning,\u00a0development\u00a0and career progression. In 2025, Mercury welcomed more than 400 new colleagues and achieved over 200 internal promotions, with a target of reaching 1,000 promotions by 2030.<\/span><\/p>\n

We\u00a0continue\u00a0to invest heavily in developing talent from within.\u00a0More than 200,000 learning and development hours were delivered during the year, while graduate and apprenticeship programmes\u00a0are consistently\u00a0expanding, with graduate intake expected to\u00a0double\u00a0from 45 in 2025 to approximately 100 in 2026, alongside the recruitment of 100 apprentices.<\/span>

As we continue to grow across Europe, culture\u00a0remains\u00a0a critical part of our five-year strategy, Go Beyond. Through 40 culture sessions taking place across 10 countries, Mercury is engaging directly with employees to understand how its purpose, values and behaviours are experienced day to day, helping shape the next stage of our growth and embedding a culture-as-standard approach across the organisation.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the panel discussion, Joanne spoke about the importance of\u00a0building multidisciplinary teams\u00a0to meet the\u00a0evolving demands\u00a0of\u00a0the data centre industry.\u00a0Today\u2019s projects require\u00a0expertise\u00a0from across engineering, commissioning, planning, safety,\u00a0sustainability\u00a0and off-site manufacturing, with teams working more closely together than ever before.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Mercury, we know the\u00a0importance\u00a0of developing\u00a0and nurturing\u00a0an\u00a0<\/span>adventurer mindset\u00a0<\/span><\/i>–\u00a0building teams that are comfortable stepping into new challenges, working beyond traditional roles and adapting as the industry continues to change. As data centre delivery evolves, there is growing value in people who can see the bigger picture and contribute across\u00a0different stages\u00a0of a project.<\/span><\/p>\n

The discussion also explored the challenge of building specialised teams in remote locations. In these markets, success depends on combining local knowledge with international\u00a0expertise. Mercury has seen this first-hand in the Nordics, where teams have been successfully scaled by bringing together experienced Mercury people from across Europe with local talent, regional supply chain\u00a0partners\u00a0and long-term investment in the region.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
