To address this, Mercury has run its \u2018Safe for Summer\u2019 campaign across all sites for the past three years, embedding structured actions into projects during June, July, and August. The 2025 campaign, guided by our Work Safe, Home Safe anchor value, reinforced our commitment to delivering best-in-class safety performance at every level.<\/p>\n<h3>Reinforcing Safety Standards During High-Risk Months<\/h3>\n<p>Warmer weather, reduced supervision due to holidays, and increased fatigue among teams are known to heighten risks during the summer months. Mercury\u2019s \u2018Safe for Summer\u2019 campaign set out a structured programme of toolbox talks, demonstrations, and site-wide stand downs that placed seasonal safety under the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p>Each month focused on one of the most common high-risk activities recorded in previous years:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Material handling in June<\/strong> addressed one of the most common causes of incidents. Teams revisited safe lifting techniques and reinforced planning and supervision on site. Practical sessions focused on rigging checks, exclusion zones, and monitoring of equipment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Working at heights in July<\/strong> was prioritised as the highest-risk activity. Training and stand downs covered harness use, scaffold inspections, and MEWP operations, while additional reminders were given on hydration, PPE in high temperatures, and recognising early signs of heat-related fatigue.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lifting operations in August<\/strong> addressed lifting operations, another high-risk activity across the industry. Teams concentrated on planning lifts with greater precision, reviewing ground stability, and reinforcing the use of certified lifting equipment. Toolbox talks and audits helped ensure all personnel remained competent and confident in safe lifting practices, with supervisors leading focused sessions on preparation and oversight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Together, these measures kept attention on high-risk activities throughout the summer and helped maintain consistent safety standards across Mercury sites.<\/p>\n<h3>Safety Performance Strengthened Across Summer 2025<\/h3>\n<p>By embedding these initiatives throughout the summer months, Mercury strengthened its culture of safety and reinforced a shared standard across all projects.<\/p>\n<p>Results from this year\u2019s Safe for Summer campaign show clear improvement. The Total Recordable Incident Rate dropped more than threefold, and overall severity was reduced, with First Aid cases falling by two-fifths compared with last year. Tony Sheridan, Group QEHS Director, emphasised the significance of these results:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>These results mark a significant advancement in workplace safety with the \u2018Safe for Summer\u2019 campaign cutting our incident rate by two-thirds. These improvements demonstrate how our \u2018Work Safe, Home Safe\u2019 culture and our \u2018Make it Happen\u2019 approach is embedded in day-to-day operations. However, we must not become complacent as the \u201cconstant itch\u201d for improving safety culture and driving higher standards is key to our success.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2018Safe for Summer\u2019 is one example of how Mercury lives its Work Safe, Home Safe commitment and ensures safety remains at the heart of everything we deliver.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>WORK SAFE HOME SAFE <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Safety is our anchor value. It underpins everything that we do. It\u2019s a mindset that\u2019s firmly fixed in every individual, team, and rank throughout Mercury and our supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>Safety is embedded in our DNA.
