On 7 September, 55 Mercury team members came together in Rotterdam for the Gran Fondo cycle, covering distances of up to 160km to raise funds in support of a young girl showing extraordinary bravery as she undergoes treatment for cancer.<\/p>\n
\u2018Cycle for Cassie\u2019 was inspired by a close connection within the Mercury community. Cassie, a 12-year-old from Donegal, is currently receiving treatment in the Netherlands that is not available in Ireland. Her family has temporarily relocated to be with her, with her brother acting as a donor.<\/p>\n
Back home in Creeslough, Cassie\u2019s school and wider community had already organised local fundraisers to support the family. Seamus McDaid, a Mercury colleague from the same Donegal parish, shared the story with his project team in Amsterdam. From there, further initiatives were organised on site, including a jersey day, a head shave and collections supported by subcontractors. Together they raised more than \u20ac10,000 in the months leading up to the cycle.<\/p>\n
When I first spoke about Cassie\u2019s story on site, people wanted to help straight away. The subcontractors we work with were a big part of that. It was great to see everyone pulling together.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
