About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Procurement Manager to join our Fleet, Tools & Plant (FTP) division at Mercury. This role is based in Ireland and will require significant travel to project sites across the EU.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years’ procurement experience, ideally within Fleet, Tools & Plant or a related operational environment. As our FTP division continues to expand and evolve across the business, this role will be instrumental in supporting growth, enhancing an already high-performing function, and delivering services into new regions.

Your experience will enable you to drive strategic alignment with Group policies, optimise supplier relationships, and support the delivery of a consistent, scalable procurement service across our projects.

Responsibilities of the role:

 

Deliver best in class performance through professional, competitive and efficient buying processes, controls and systems for their project(s).

  • Develop and implement fleet, tool, and plant procurement strategies covering purchase, hire, lease, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Lead the strategic purchase and hire of fleet, plant, and tools to optimise utilisation and total cost of ownership.
  • Lead supplier sourcing, tendering, and commercial negotiations, including framework agreements, rebates, and strategic alliances.
  • Ensure the quality, compliance, and timely delivery of fleet tool and plant assets in line with project and operational requirements.
  • Conduct bid evaluations, commercial analysis, and approval recommendations for fleet and plant procurement activity.
  • Create and maintain fleet, tool & plant procurement plans aligned with project teams and operational demand.
  • Monitor and report on fleet tool & plant spend, utilisation, savings, supplier performance, and compliance.
  • Drive asset reallocation and recovery across projects to minimise external hire and excess spend.
  • Oversee the disposal, resale, or write‑off of surplus or end‑of‑life assets in line with policy and financial controls.
  • Ensure strict adherence to the Authority Matrix, procurement policies, and audit requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with project teams, site management, plant departments, finance, supply chain partners and senior stakeholders.
  • Conduct site visits to meet with project teams.
  • Significant European travel required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Line Manager

 

 

Essential Criteria of the Role:

  • Min 10 years’ procurement experience, with strong fleet, tool and plant category expertise.
  • Experience in a similar role within an engineering or construction company.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Work well as part of a team towards a common goal.
  • Negotiating experience

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • A third level qualification preferably in supply chain or other related discipline. 
  • Previous SAP experience.
  • Previous experience leading a team
  • Knowledge of Tool and plant for construction an advantage.
